Back In Black
News Release from the March Issue of the Harder Beat
Back In Black --
L.A.. is the home of tribute bands. I've seen plenty of them out there, but Dallas' AC/DC tribute band, Back In Black, is absolutely the top of the line. They obviously did their research, as the group sounds just like the records. Angus Young clone (guitartist, Mike Mroz), performs, plays and dresses down to the wire.
They did both eras of AC/DC, starting off with Bon Scott, playing "Dirty Deeds", "Let There Be Rock", "Jailbreak", "Big Balls", and "Shot Down In Flames", Then they headed into the Brian Johnson era, including "Thunderstruck", "Back in Black", and "You Shook Me". Vocalist Darren Caperna, is simply amazing in how he imitates both Bon and Brian-right down to facial expressions. His excellent voice doesn't hurt either. Jay Benzi (drummer), Andy Abbott (bass), and Mike Wagner (guitar),
round out the band.
The crowd was dancing in the aisles, because the show was nothing less than a blast.
(Angus Macmannus)
The Black in Black tribute band is an incredible, exciting, high energy reproduction of a concert performance of AC/DC . All the members of Back in Black live in Dallas/Fort Worth area and are experienced musicians dedicated to capturing the power and excitement of AC/DC. We can play many different types of shows that include all of the best material from Bon Scott and Brian Johnson.
Back In Black was formed in late 2001 by former LA bandmates Mike Mroz (Angus) and Darren Caperna (Bon & Brian). Mike had always recognized the potential of this project due to Darren's uncanny ability to transcend both the spirit of Bon Scott and Brian Johnson into his voice. Jay Benzi (Phil), Andy Abbott (Cliff), and Mike Wagner (Malcom) were found via an ad in the Dallas Observer. The band has created an incredible buzz which initiated with its first headlining show at Trees in Dallas, TX.
