Caravanserai - a Tribute to Santana

Conceived as a fantasy band by lead guitarist Leo Herrera and fueled into reality by the enthusiasm of his step-son, conga player Marc Taylor, Caravanserai is a tribute to the legendary early days of newly enshrined Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Santana.

Once the challenge was undertaken, long time friend and master keyboardist /vocalist Steve Sevilla was called into action, taking on the replication of the intregal work by original Santana member, keybordist Greg Rolie. Then, journeyman musicians Hank Gibson (bassist/vocalist) and Steve Hall (drums/vocals) were added as well as master Latin percussionist Ben Nitzan.

This band has been a labor of love for all the people involved. The replication of the original sounds of the Santana group on their first three albums has been a daunting undertaking, but a wonderful challenge that is currently reaching fruition.

The goal was this: recreate the sounds of the original Santana group through the issuance of its third album, from "Evil Ways" to "No One to Depend On", "Black Magic Woman" to "Everybody's Everything", the pounding congas and Latin percussions of "Jingo", it's all there.

The use of the same instrumentaion was a must. In some instances the same exact kind of instruments, such as a Hammond B-3, Gibson SG, and Les Paul guitars played by Greg Rolie and Carlos Santana respectively are used. Lead guitar, keyboardist/lead vocalist, bass guitarist, conga player, trap set drummer and timbale player are all replicated with the same painstaking care.
